Via Duca Degli Abruzzi, 100/106, 74123 Taranto TA
This Church is a fine example of architecture from the second half of the 20th century; it is dedicated to Sant’Antionio da Padova and is characterized by the its architecture and, above all, by the monumental apse mosaic created between 1968 and 1971 by Ferruccio Ferrazzi (1891-1978), famous artist strongly influenced by Sironi, Carrà and Le Corbusier.
The center of the work is occupied by the figure of the Triumphant Christ, between scenes and symbols of the Passion interrupted by images of everyday life and references to the actuality of the time.
In one of the side chapels, it is possible to admire a valuable baroque marble altar from the church of San Giovanni Battista, built in front of San Domenico Maggiore (in the Old Town), and demolished in the early decades of the 1900s.
