Lungomare Vittorio Emanuele III, 32, 74123 Taranto TA
Realized to the design of Cesare Bazzani, the ex. House of Fascism of Taranto stands out for its detailed façade shape and its distinctive internal decorations.
In the rooms are still visible the well-preserved cycle of murals of Mario Prayer, the prolific artist who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, who was also very active in Apulia. He worked on big monumental buildings but also on private residences.
The murals thought for the ex. House of Fascism stands out for their big dimensions and the important symbolic value of the painting themselves: Taranto is in fact represented together with the four Maritime Republics.
The use of the figures of the dolphin and the scorpion in the painting are very unique: the first one is the symbol of Taranto Municipality and the second one of the Province, and they’re represented on top of the inscription “SPQT” (Senatus Populusque Tarentinus).
